Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet Review

Image
From the sharp strands of Pooh's fur to Piglet's vibrant pink skin, the X1's display was accurate and full of color. The ThinkPad X1 Tablet looks like an epic race car for a reason -- this baby can purr. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet ($1,269 starting; $1,420 as reviewed) is a durable and secure 2-in-1 business detachable that's also powerful enough to let you dominate noobs in Overwatch on the device's vibrant, 13-inch, 3K display. However, be prepared to bring some headphones, as the speakers can't muster enough sound to fill a small personal office, and a charger, because the X1 Tablet's battery life is short-lived. Despite this slate's flaws, the X1 Tablet is still quite the looker, and doer. This 2-in-1 features a comfortable keyboard and an impressive pair of webcams, and under its awesomely designed chassis lie some powerful specs. Specs CPU 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U Processor (1.6GHz, up to 3.4GHz with Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache) Operatin...

Lenovo ThinkPad T480 Review

Image
Whether you're writing a quarterly report for the board of directors or banging away on your senior thesis, you want a laptop that is not only fast but also makes you faster. With its 17+ hours of battery life, snappy keyboard and plethora of ports, Lenovo's ThinkPad T480 helps you work quickly and focus on being productive, rather than worrying about running out of juice or finding a dongle. Starting at $1,049 ($1,636 as tested), this 14-inch laptop offers the best balance of usability, portability and price of any current business laptop. Specs CPU Intel Core i5-8350U Operating System Windows 10 Pro RAM 8GB RAM Upgradable to 16GB Hard Drive Size 256GB Lenovo ThinkPad T480 at Amazon for $1189.99 Design The ThinkPad T480 has a design aesthetic that's functional but not sexy, with the standard raven-black Lenovo chassis that's adorned by a soft-touch lid. There's been no change in looks for the past couple of years, so you probably couldn't tell ...

Lenovo Flex 6 11 Review

Image
The Lenovo Flex 6 11 packs a hefty punch for a small budget 2-in-1 laptop. For $329.99, you get a relatively powerful Intel Celeron processor, a modest 64GB of eMMC storage and over 9 hours of battery, all packed into a sleek body. However, it does suffer from some performance issues, due to its scant 2GB of RAM. Because of its relatively dull 11-inch display and lackluster audio, your multimedia experience won't be the best. Still, the Flex 6 offers great budget performance and an enjoyable typing experience for everyday workloads which students and jetsetters will appreciate. article continued below Advertisement Design The Flex 6 presents a simple, sleek design with a two-tone black plastic chassis with silver accents. The Lenovo logo sits neatly engraved at the top-left corner of the lid, and the dual, 360-degree aluminum hinges have a slight gleam. Those hinges aren't just for show; they allow the system to transform from a traditional laptop into tablet, tent and ...

HP ZBook Studio x360 G5 Review

Image
HP has mastered the 2-in-1 workstation with its ZBook Studio x360 G5. For $4,966 (starting at $1,999), you get an indomitable beast with a Intel Xeon processor and a Quadro P1000 GPU. Between its dazzling 4K display, bouncy keyboard and long battery life, the ZBook Studio is quite amazing all around. Not to mention that its chassis is military-durable and pretty sexy at the same time. The ZBook Studio hits only a few snags with its webcam and flexing lid. But if you have the means, this is the ultimate take-anywhere workstation for creative pros. article continued below Advertisement Design The HP ZBook Studio x360 sports a silky gray paint over its solid aluminum hood, but despite being metal, the lid flexes hard around its center. The bottom corners of the laptop are sliced off, creating a stylish and edgy aesthetic, while the top of the lid is accompanied by a solid line across the surface and the center of the laptop holds HP's signature logo. The interior rocks the...

HP Spectre Folio Review

Image
There's a saying that I always heard as a kid: "Dress for the job you want." And by the looks of the HP Spectre Folio 13 ($1,299 starting, $1,608 as reviewed), the 2-in-1 is auditioning for a spot in some high-powered executive's arsenal. Clad in genuine leather, the Folio is a refined take on the 2-in-1, offering stunning good looks, multimode modes, over 10 hours of battery life and a comfortable keyboard. The Y-series Core i5 processor isn't the fastest, but otherwise, this is a stellar example of computing design Design: Seriously Impressive As soon as I showed my mom the Folio, she said, "I love it!" And while I wouldn't go that far, I will say I'm seriously impressed with HP's design choices. The supple Cognac Brown genuine leather is soft against my hand and resistant to my overly oily fingers. And while I'm not normally one to sniff my tech (at least, not in public), you'd be remiss not to in the case of the Folio. A coup...

HP Chromebook x2 Review

Image
The Surface Go is getting a lot of attention, but the HP Chromebook x2 ($599) is better than Microsoft's cute 2-in-1 in three key ways. You get a bigger 12.3-inch screen, an in-lap typing experience and longer battery life. Unfortunately, the Chromebook x2's performance leaves something to be desired, its bezels are on the thick side and it's heavier than the competition. Still, HP has innovated in the Chromebook world with this fantastic detachable laptop. Design The HP Chromebook x2 is a white, anodized aluminum tablet that attaches to a rubber, leather-textured keyboard, and snaps in both as a laptop, and in reverse as a tablet. While I appreciate the tablet's unique colorway and its chrome HP logo, I've noticed small scratches have appeared on it over the last few weeks, as I moved the x2 out of a desk drawer that contained other laptops. Watching YouTube videos on the Chromebook x2, I caught myself wanting a larger screen, or more specifically, thinner...

Dell XPS 15 Review

Image
Dell's XPS laptops are considered the gold standard when it comes to premium notebooks, and the newest XPS 15 is no exception. Priced at $1,009 to start (about $1,409 as tested), this is one of the most powerful laptops on the market, thanks to its Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics. It's also drop-dead gorgeous with its slim, modern industrial design, incredibly thin bezels and lovely display. The 15-inch still suffers from the XPS line's biggest flaw -- an ill-placed webcam -- but, overall, this is one of the best Windows laptops you can buy and a formidable foe to Apple's much pricier 15-inch MacBook Pro. Specs CPU 2.2-GHz Intel Core i7-8750H processor Operating System Windows 10 RAM 16GB RAM Upgradable to 32GB Hard Drive Size 256GB Design With its clean industrial silver aluminum lid and undercarriage sandwiching a soft-touch black interior accentuated by smooth, rounded corners, the latest XPS 15 looks pretty identical to its pr...

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 Review

Image
It's about time: Dell has finally taken its 15-inch premium notebook and made it into a convertible. The XPS 15 2-in-1 ($1,499.99 to start; $2,549 as tested) is an incredibly thin bend-back notebook with serious power driven by Intel's Kaby Lake G processors with AMD's Radeon RX Vega M graphics. The optional 4K screen is vivid and beautiful, and the new Maglev keyboard is an innovative solution that feels extremely responsive, despite its low travel. But Dell has yet to fix the XPS' annoying webcam placement, and that 4K screen really eats up battery life, which is subpar. That makes the XPS 15 2-in-1 an impressive feat of design and a pleasure to use (webcam aside), but it doesn't endure as long as competitors. Specs CPU Intel Core i7-8705G CPU @ 3.10GHz Operating System Windows 10 Pro RAM 16GB RAM Upgradable to 32GB Hard Drive Size 1 TB Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 (15.6-inch 1TB) at Amazon for $1349 Design While I've thought for a while that the XPS de...
